In rural communities of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, many young people face significant challenges in continuing their education due to a lack of financial resources. Tuition fees, school supplies, transportation, and food are common barriers that prevent them from completing high school.

To change this reality, in 2024, the Trinational Border Association of the Lempa River launched the Trinational Solidarity Scholarship Program. Its goal is to provide financial and educational support to vulnerable youth so they can complete their secondary education, promoting equity and social inclusion.

Program Impact in 2024:

  • 60 students supported across 6 municipalities in the three countries.
  • 73% of scholarships awarded to women, promoting gender equity in education.
  • Participants aged between 17 and 32, with an average academic performance of 80%.
  • Annual funding delivered in three installments to cover tuition, materials, monthly fees, and transportation.
  • Reintegration of young people and single mothers who had dropped out due to financial hardship.
  • 25 students completed high school thanks to the program.

This program not only benefits the youth who receive scholarships but also transforms the lives of their families. In 30 single-parent households, where mothers are the primary breadwinners, the scholarships have played a vital role in improving opportunities and securing a more prosperous future
