ADA, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of education by motivating children to read and write, released new data from their core creativity initiatives. Mi Cuenta Fantastico, the national writing contest for girls and boys, which encourages them to share their experiences, aspirations and imagination through story writing, reached a record number of schools, teachers and students participating from the 27 educational regions of the country, in its 2023 edition.

This represented an 18.5% growth in participating schools compared to 2022. To motivate more children to participate, ADA is distributing a physical anthology of the best stories nationwide and a new physical version of the outstanding regional stories to participating classrooms.

In 2023, ADA also launched ¡A CREAR!, responding to the needs of students and teachers identified in Mi Cuento Fantástico. This 3-year project seeks to develop a scalable model for motivating purposeful writing (and reading) in public school classrooms and has promising initial results from 2,000 participating students in 4 marginalized urban schools in San Jose Central.

The international network, of which ADA is a founding member, ProLEER, continued to grow met in person to discuss cutting-edge research in areas such as facilitating deep learning and how early language development relates to reading comprehension.

Check out ADA’s free Virtual Library for resources for teachers and librarians seeking to improve their students’ reading comprehension and communicative writing skills. It contains over 250 literary texts and was visited more than 8,300 times in 2023. Or check their full 2023 Impact Report.
