Individualized Educational Plans (PEI): Transforming Learning in Honduras

Partner: Un Mundo, Honduras

The Individualized Educational Plans (PEI) project by Un Mundo was developed following a psychoeducational assessment conducted with 66 students from 8 communities in Honduras. This comprehensive analysis, which included various evaluations, identified the students’ strengths and areas for improvement in their cognitive, emotional, and social development.

The results revealed that the students’ intellectual performance ranged from normal to extremely low levels. Notably, 50% of the children exhibited difficulties in neuropsychological maturity and visuomotor skills, which significantly affected their academic performance and participation in school activities.

Projective tests highlighted that many students experience insecurity and low self-esteem, factors that impact their motivation and performance. Additionally, the reading abilities of 30 students were assessed, revealing a low reading speed, potentially linked to learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

This led to the creation of the PEI program, designed to address each student’s specific needs. The program aims to enhance students’ strengths and address their challenges while fostering a more inclusive and effective learning environment.

“The support I’ve received has helped me feel more confident at school. Now I can read with greater confidence, and my grades have improved.” – Beneficiary Student With the implementation of PEI, the program aims to improve students’ academic performance by 30% in the next school year and boost their confidence by 50%.
